## Description

Most cymbals on the market today have Turkish or European influence. However, WUHAN has defined the Oriental sound for centuries. To better understand their popularity, let's look at Wuhan's history and some of the products they offer. For over 1900 years Wuhan has made cast, hand-hammered cymbals in China. In fact, the Chinese have been credited with inventing the cymbal for use as a musical instrument. Wuhan is well known for their china and gong cymbals. However many people don't realize that they also produce a line of "western" style cymbals. In fact, Universal Percussion, Inc. who owns Wuhan contributed to the creation of an excellent line of professional quality cymbals that include a traditional, rock, and bright series. Each model is offered at prices below competing cymbals and are covered by Wuhan's one year breakage guarantee (which will replace any cymbal within a year of purchase- no questions asked). Wuhan's china cymbals range in size from 12" to 27". They offer rivets in the 16", 18", 20", & 22" sizes. They are describes as dark, explosive and trashy with distinct tonalities.

Review: Quality sound from a low-priced china - In the drumming world, Wuhan cymbals lie in a grey area of quality. From what I've researched, there isn't strict quality control in their production, therefore you need to sift through many to get a decent sounding one.....I lucked out purchasing this online without previewing it.....because it was cheap...however I am impressed with the sound I got. It's has a nice sharp attack and relatively quick decay, more so if you tighten it a little with felts. It sounds very clear, which is pretty surprising since most cheap cymbals/chinas sound like you're smacking an aluminum garbage can lid with a baseball bat. The only problem I have with this particular model is the center cup (as opposed to a bell shape) which makes it difficult to use on a wingnut-type cymbal lock because of its fairly small diameter. I've been using it sparingly with my country rock band, but it would probably be a more useful tool with something like progressive rock. Still, it fits in nicely with any music as long as you use it in context of your playing. Don't be one of those 1st grader types that like to hit a piece of percussion over and over again just because it's new and unique. Overall I'm very satisfied in the short-term with this cymbal. I'll have to see in long-term if it thins out prematurely or if any cracks begin to appear. I have pretty disciplined cymbal striking technique so hopefully I'll see it last. The only thing I recommend (which I was guilty of) is going to a music store and trying them out in person. I lucked out this time online, but could have easily gotten a really horrible sounding one just the same.
Review: Does the job. - I'd say this is more of a 'kang' than a china cymbal. It generates an accent of white noise with a brief trashy decay and then it's gone. If you want a longer, more explosive china sound, I'd recommend an 18' or 16' minimum. I'm using this in gospel/rock/folk type music . . . and as long as I don't over use it; it adds some nice dynamic accents. It is quite a loud sound and though the drums are miked, but usually without overheads;this cymbal still cuts through. Again for the price, this is an amazing deal. Because of its smaller size, I can sit this under the corner of my ride cymbal. When I do use overheads with this setup, this cymbal doesn't wreck the mix.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ For only twelve bucks, fabulous deal!
*by D***D on March 10, 2014*

Let's face it, China Boys sound like garbage can lids with a little more sustain. This sounds as good as any and it's hard to see how they can make money selling them so cheap. You can go on and on about the exotic resonance of a finely crafted Turkish cymbal constructed of secret bronze formulas handed down by generations but a chinas still gonna sound like a garbage can and if you spend $100 for something you can get for $13 you're not a discriminating professional you're a foolish snob in my opinion. I have several Wuhan cymbals now, along with some Sabians and Paistes and some very old vintage Zildjians. I like them all, they all have different sounds and uses and I smack 'em all with a wooden stick. Okay it was $12.99 just a few months ago, now its $28, still a steal! This little 12" is louder than my 19" china.
