Please check your chickens often to make sure there isn't an issue with the band.I use a different color for each year to keep track of the year my hens were hatched. The bands are easy to put on and don't seem to bother the birds at all. I did have one miss-sexed bird that grew to be a HUGE rooster, I had to take the band off of him as it got tight on his leg. I've never had a hen get big enough for a band to get tight on them, I have around 15 different breeds of full size hens. I decided to put the blue tag on the bird's left leg for the Summer of 2014. This way, I can use the extras, same color but on the right leg in two years from now on my new, future birds. Once the tags are put on the bird, the chickens seem to not notice the tag as they are not tight, but fit perfectly. I tagged Rhode Island Reds and Black Bards. I purchased red tags for my new Summer of 2015 birds.To gather the birds, I closed the door to the chicken hutch at night, and then in the morning, opened a smaller door in the hutch that allowed me to hand grab one chicken at a time. Since I only had 15 birds to tag, the task of tagging the birds took about 5 minutes.
