The lamp is sturdy, though the design would make you think other wise and has a shade of good weight The switch in the cord is close enough that it runs along the mirror before the rest of the cord drops off the back of the dresser. I didn't know if I'd like a switch like that but it works for me and blends in on the dark dresser. The very bottom edge of a 40 Watt incandescent light bulb does peak out, much like the center of a flower does and with the shade curving down and the bottom edge of incandescent light bulb curving up, it works well together. The lamp design allows it to provide a lot of light with the 40 Watt bulb.
