Long version - I bought these as flying gloves, because all of the nomex military flying gloves I found had marginal reviews, and no proof that they were made to any sort of standard. So these aren't rated as racing gloves as I understand it, but are made as a lighter version of the rated gloves, out of the same type of material. Anyway, these are close fitting enough to let me work all of the major controls of an airplane without taking them off, which is a great advantage in a plane with little heat. They will sometimes let you run a touch screen display...it just depends. They are by no means designed as winter gloves, but that's what I'm wearing them as, because regular winter gloves wouldn't give me the dexterity I need, and most regular winter gloves are made of plastic. I'm not looking to have a fire, but if I do, I don't want my gloves to burn and melt into my hands. These may not offer much protection, but they shouldn't cause any extra damage. downside? they're kind of goofy looking, to me.
