I was extremely impressed with the quality of the figures. They are a very durable plastic, and will definitely stand up to many years of play. They are very detailed as well, and for such a low price compared with other nativity sets, I believe this set is an amazing bargain. I think that, especially for a children's set, it would be difficult to find such a complete set as well. It comes with 2 shepards (along with 1 ram and 1 sheep), the 3 wise men (along with a camel), 2 angels, a donkey (along with a bale of hay), a palm tree, a stable, and of course Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus. (Jesus and his manger are seperate, so baby Jesus is actually 2 pieces.) We got this for our 13-month old as her first nativity set. Though she doesn't quite yet understand what all of the pieces mean, she loved playing with them, and this is where their durability was tested. The pieces really do fit perfectly into a childs hand. Honestly, I think they are beautiful enough to be displayed with the other decorations, so we have it out on our mantel when it isn't being played with. Also, it did come with a miniature story book (about the same size as the figurines) that tells the biblical story of baby Jesus. It's not illustrated, but it is a cute little teaching tool. Another neat inclusion is a guide for parents about a child's spiritual development and which concepts children often grasp at which age group.
