## Overview

The Radial Pro AV2 is a professional-grade, passive two-channel direct box designed for multimedia integrators. Featuring ultra-quiet operation, multiple input formats (RCA, 3.5mm, XLR, 1/4"), and custom transformers that preserve audio fidelity while eliminating ground loop hum, it’s the essential tool for clean, reliable stereo signal management in demanding AV environments.

## Description

ProAV2 Multimedia DI ' Swiss Army knife' direct box for multi-media. Handles huge transients without distortion. The ProAV1 features a variety of stereo inputs that are summed mono via a resistive mixer, greatly simplifying signal management. To eliminate the need for various adaptors, both units are equipped with a 'Swiss Army' array of connectivity options including 1/4" inputs for instruments, RCA and 3.5mm (1/8") connectors for CD players, iPods, video decks and computers. The ProAV1 also features a female XLR input for interfacing equipment with +4dB professional signal levels. The front panel connectors can also be used as thru-puts to allow multiple patch points.Custom wound Eclipse ET-DB2 transformers are able to withstand exceptionally hot signal levels while maintaining linearity from 20Hz to 20kHz. The resulting smooth Bessel curve is warm and natural, making them particularly adept at handling digital sources that can sound harsh. Transformer isolation further benefits by eliminating hum and buzz caused by ground loops or DC offset problems. These features combine to make the ProAV1 and ProAV2 'must have' problem solvers for the audio-visual technician's tool kit.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: It says "Input - Thru" on top, but where the thru signal come out?**
A: All the inputs are connected in parallel, so you can access the thru signal from the RCA or 3.5mm jacks if you use the 1/4” inputs for example.

If that works for what you need it’s great, but that’s one reason I don’t much care for the proAV2; you can’t just use it as a regular old passive instrument DI without specialty cables or adapters. I am an instrumentalist, DJ, and sound guy, and my advice for the ultimate in “oh sh#%” flexibility, is to get at least 1 proAV1 box. First off, they are excellent standard instrument DIs, so you can easily send signal to your amp and the board like you always have. Secondly, They have bailed me out of problems several times in my career when running sound, when pieces of gear have broken, or I’ve forgotten, or just don’t have, a particular cable. In those cases, it doesn’t matter if you preserve the stereo field; you just need to get a signal to any available input, and the proAV1 makes that easier. You can, for instance, sum a 3.5mm stereo signal from a computer or phone, into a single XLR or 1/4” output on the proAV1. With the PRoAV2, you better have 2 cables and 2 inputs on your mixer ready to go, or you won’t be hearing the left or right channel from your source, which could make for some really weird results.

That said, For true stereo instruments, or preserving stereo signals from AV devices or computers, the proAV2 is the right tool for the job, but you must have 2 inputs available on your mixer.

**Q: Could this Be used to Output main LR as a separate out into say a Video Camera/GoPro or Phone to get a MONO/Stereo Balanced Mixed?**
A: Not sure what you are trying to accomplish. If your camera has a line out that you can connect a cable to, this will work, but not sure what you are trying to do.

**Q: Can i use all 1/4 input and rca at the same time?(sending audio input from my keyboard(2 x 1/4) and audio input from my usb-dac(rca) ) thank you**
A: I'm deferring all specific recommendations to the ProAV2 user guide, which can be found on the Radial web-page (http://www.radialeng.com/proav.php). My cursory view of the manual leads me to believe that all input connectors could be used because they are all summed by a resistor-mixer. Its multiple connector types are typically for convenience and can be used as "thru-puts", but summing various inputs does look possible.

**Q: Is this the perfect gear if i use vst (pianoteq, kontakt) a lot? from the mac, it can convert to two xlr and for my 2 yamaha hs8 or hs5?**
A: The proav2 is the swiss army knife and yes this is exactly the type of situation you would use this for.
Thank you
