They are packed with a bit of oil, but mostly vinegar. They do have a slightly smokey taste, which is different than your typical sliced jalapenos, and the jar also includes some round slices of carrot. These have a complex flavor profile, so if you add it to the side of a meal or on top of enchiladas, etc, they taste WAY more like something homemade than if you just threw some typical jalapeno rounds on something.The liquid is so tasty that I often put a splash of it in soups, stews, sauces...anything that could benefit from a lift of flavor. In fact, I don't throw the excess liquid away, I just save it and use it in stuff like salsa verde, etc, to deepen the flavor...it adds four complex elements at once: 1)acidity 2) salt 3)heat (spice) 4) sodium.Definitely spicy, but not extreme. My husband enjoys this in salads, as a little side to any meat or stew entree. The uses are endless. (I've made a great cream cheese spread with this, chopped up, and also a wonderful spicy ham salad for sandwiches.)I did not buy them on Amazon because I buy them locally, but I WOULD buy them here if I needed to.By the way, it's best to transfer them immediately to a glass jar upon opening.
