It operated as advertised until it came under longer duty cycles of transmissions. The internally generated heat eventually destroyed itself. It does not operate as a scanner, too slow, and the scanning vfo feature is not designed to cycle - only memory channels will cycle. It is relatively easy but not without many keyin strokes of the microphone keyboard to program frequencies and channels. There are several recommended software programs for the PC to program these foreign-made type units. Audio is loud and crisp when needed in noisy situations. FM broadcast radio is a plus. I use a Sirius satellite receiver to transmit fm signal to the transceiver while it monitors two other frequencies (ham or local police). This item will not survive being left in a hot car while in direct sunlight as the plastics and cords are of light-duty material. But, it is (was) worth the money while it lasted. So, I am ordering another one because I understand it is only worth the small investment! Good audio reports and no major issues. The only problem was with the glue that secures the speaker. It came loose in the Texas heat and the sound was muffled. I took the radio apart and used silicone to secure it. The factory did not use screws to mount the speaker.Problem solvedUse Chirp to program it and you'll be happy. This is a great budget option. I've used it in my truck and as a base station.
