Since I have large and small dogs, this bowl is a perfect size to accommodate all of them. The reason I only give it three stars is because my dogs often don't drink all the water that I pour in it for them to drink and I like to put the lid on the bowl and empty it into their water bowls at home if they don't drink the rest of it later. Unfortunately the lid is very loose and more often than not the remaining water spills in the car.
