They are are easy on/easy off but are secure enough to handle vigorous swimming and playing in the water. These socks are great and I am so happy to have found them. I bought two pairs to switch out because when you work out and sweat in them, yes, they will start to stink. So needed another pair to use while I washed the other. This does a great job from keeping your feet from getting burned and blistered from hot sand. Plus, I've been playing at night recently and I wear them to keep to my toes from freezing so they work in the summer and in the winter. Putting them on is easy and I like the tall sock fit to avoided getting additional sand in them from playing. If you just need them to walk around, I think the short ones are totally fine. If you abuse them like I do, you'll get a few months out of them before the bottoms, right under the balls of feet, start to crack. They still work but you'll get a little more sand in your sock and will eventually need to replace them. Overall, they serve there purpose. They are slip resistant, comfy, and prevent sand burns.
