I added very hot tap water and microwaved water that was too hot to touch. Once I put it in the bottle, it was barely warm, even after waiting for several minutes for the rubber to heat. I don't know how this would be helpful for cramps or muscle pain. My daughter and I just like to hold it and put it under the covers when it's cold out, but we want it to be much hotter! I would be nervous about adding scalding hot water to this and have it leak and cause a bad burn. So far there has been no evidence of leaking, but it does have a very strong smell. I bought this because of the great reviews, but it just doesn't get hot enough for me. Many reviewers stated that there is no odor, but there is definitely a bad, headache causing odor with the one I received.
