Review: the 300w but I could have easily gone with the 160w because I never need to ... - I purchased this item about 2 years ago so I've had some time to use it and get to know it a bit. At the time I was looking for a lighting system I was hooked on the Maxspect but was unsure whether I should go with the smaller 160w or this larger 300w for my 48" width x 24" height and 24" deep reef tank. Well I ended up choosing this one, the 300w but I could have easily gone with the 160w because I never need to run this above 30% power, it is so powerful but also awesome! The timer works so nicely, the tank loves it as long as I don't run it too bright, the water also looks beautiful too. It's a lot of light for a 48" tank though so if I were to do it again I'd most likely go with the smaller one unless you have at least 3 foot of depth.
