It was painted with enamel and had crystals on both the front and back sides. That was a pleasant surprise because I had seen other reviews that showed only the front painted and with the back plain. So happy to see both front and back painted. Very beautiful and has some weight to the piece and feels very sturdy. It's a little smaller than expected, especially for the price, but still a little bigger that the other styles for the same price. Bought another one for my mother. Next year will be our first time celebrating Hanukkah, too bad we missed it this year, we are new to this, anyway we wanted something special that will last years to come.
