I have both Mex & American and find no significant differences. My Mex plays as good or better than my American, slightly lighter weight (0.2lbs), and I can put any pups I want in for WAY less money. The setup on my American was loosened for shipping which is ok, but needed a whole setup, and the jack input nut was loose. Case is well made. I'd also like to have all plastic wrap on the pick guard removed before shipping. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Flat out amazing Stratocaster. *by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2014* This 2013 American Made Standard Fender Stratocaster is absolutely one of the most gorgeous sounding and playing instruments I have ever played. I also have a 2009 American Standard in 3 tone sunburst...and I have to say the exact same thing about that.I had stayed away from Fender for a while...until I walked into a guitar store recently and picked up the 2009 and took it for a spin. Whatever Fender has done since 2008 (tried a bunch)...it's flat out working.My grandfather had a 1957 Strat that he bought new. I had the good fortune to play it once...and I have to say...even with the modern appointments...these guitars...since 2008.. feel a LOT like that one.This 2013 has a maple neck with a satin back that plays like butter. The rolled edges make it feel like it's been played for years. The fret dressing is very well done...every fret is seated correctly.This thing stays in tune. It practically begs you to beat the snot out of it. The more you dig in with this guitar...the more it responds. It also sings when articulating subtle lines.The pick-ups are Custom shop Fat 50's. The fat 50's have a very nice rounded sound to them. They are also very quiet for a single coil. They accentuate the high-mids throughout the tonal range...which is really what makes a Strat a Strat. That means your solo's are going to sound amazing. The fat 50's make each of the 5 tonal selectors sound like quintessential versions of those positions on a Stratocaster. Personally...I'd roll off the highs on each of the tone nobs to around "7" to get that smooth tonality...the upper highs will be there if you need them.If you have never had an American Made Fender Stratocaster....and you're thinking about it...do yourself a favor and get it. You will notice the difference between these guitars and others in the Fender line immediately. The high mass bridge adds tone galore. The neck and body are solid. The guitar is light weight...but not feather light. The balance is outstanding between neck and body and overall weight is basically perfection. The neck has zero dead spots.If you're worried about ordering a guitar online...don't be. Often times people are looking for "the one" and fail to realize that what makes that happen is the set-up. Pick-up height, bridge adjustment, string height, string gauge and type...all the way down to color and strap length...contribute to causing "the one" reaction. If you know what those are...then you know how to reproduce it. The soul of Fender is about augmentation and customization...and this guitar does not disappoint.I set mine up because Fender ships the guitar with "9's" on them and I prefer a heavier gauge of string. A couple of twists here and there and a good tuner and...BAM! This guitar is one of those "the one's".This guitar does not come with an "SKB" case...instead the cases are now more of a throw-back style...which I prefer outright. The case candy is plenty...strap...cable...hang tag...polish cloth...Allen wrench...everything that USED to come with guitars.Fender is doing everything right....mark my words...the guitars from this era are the best they have ever made. They are no longer relying on their name to sell guitars. They are making guitars that made their name.(I have a 2010 American Fender Deluxe Jazz Bass, A 2012 Fender American Standard Fretless Jazz bass, A 2009 Fender American Standard Stratocaster and now a 2013 Fender American Standard Stratocaster.) ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Real Quality, Just as Advertised *by N***S on Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2013* Couldn't be happier with this purchase. The workmanship on this instrument is excellent -- a true american classic. The first thing I did after restringing with my favorite Ernie Ball Slinkys and tuning up was a check of the intonation. It was spot on. Not one adjustment required. Nothing like that classic Fender Strat tone. Plus the guitar is extremely comfortable to play. My other guitars are a Fender Tele and a Gibson Les Paul; I love them all equally for different reasons, but the Strat is an ergonomic dream. While I'll always prefer the warmer, richer, fatter humbucker tone of the Les Paul, the Strat is the absolute champ as far as value goes. Even at full retail it's half the cost of a high quality Les Paul.One word of caution: Think carefully about what kind of music you want to play. For hard rock and metal I still prefer the Les Paul. You can get a lot of different tones and sounds from the Strat, but it's still somewhat twangy and icy compared to the LP and the sustain is good but can't touch the LP due to its heavier mahogony body.
