I had no idea that was what was causing it. Then it just got so bad I was like what on earth could it be? Went on line and discovered shocking results of damage. Mine wasn't the worst case by any means because I hadn't used it exactly like they recommended. I did not shampoo it with the WEN dual purpose shampoo like not shampoo and conditioner in one. I washed with other shampoo I had used for years due to allergies I have to soaps and detergents I need to be careful. But my hair was falling out. I have waist long hair. I now need to cut it back to at least shoulder length to I hope help to heal the scalp folicles damaged by WEN. On line folks suggested EMU products to help heal the scalp and hair and so this was the only brand of emu I found anywhere on line. So ordered both. My hair feels great with it. Very expensive though. My waist long hair eats this stuff by the handfuls. Just absorbs it right up. The scent is a bit different not over powering a little wintergreenishminty like. Anyway makes my hair feel great. As to my scalp and hair it's damage that can't be fixed over night. I suspect it'll be six maybe 12 months before I see REAL improvements. My hair on average grows 2 inches a month. Besides thinned out to less than half volume previously pony tail wise it was getting thin frizzled and strange. I was at first thinking hormone issues. I'm way past menopause though. I was on my second year about a hear and half into the WEN brand and had been questioning the thinner and thinner pony tail and amount of hair often found on my bathroom rug. My hair is so long it's obvously who's hair it is and besides our larger guest bath kind of was redone as a SHE bath a few year ago. So i'm pretty much the only one in it. When the frizzled strange short strange hair began showing up is when I realized I should check out the WEN stuff. They settled even lawsuits and some of the photos of poor people even children were injured buy this produt. I wouldn't have a clue how to ask for compensation myself. I'm just hoping it's not too late to restore my hairs health in a year or two of special products such as this. Again I need to lop off another 8 inches. I cut about 7-9 inches off already as it was below my waist in January but I don't think it made much difference it overall weight of hair. So incase the weight of the hair could be keeping it from healing as fast I do plan on cutting more off. I don't want to go all the way short though. I could but no. Now about WEN...omgosh loved the smell of their products. I bought three different flavors or ok scents. Loved all three. it states you can use as a body wash too. Dang no way what if it absorbs through the skin and what kind of problems could that continue to have with my body and maybe not just my hair and scalp. So EMU is my currant JOY product.
