I have several of Joyce Goldstein's cookbooks and each is truly a treasure. She's probably one of most underrated gastronomic authorities living in the US today. This tome concerns itself with the Jewish cuisine of Northern Africa, along the Mediterranean Sea, with some logical detours elsewhere across the Middle East.It's an excellent resource for anyone interested in kosher cooking as it provides differentiated inspiration.

Apart from the fascinating background and delicious recipes this book offers, the photography is also excellent. I received Saffron Shores as a gift, but have in turn given it to friends who are interested in less-familiar Jewish cuisines than the Ashkenazic/middle European staples that characterize Jewish cooking in the U.S.

I'm currently bulking up my Jewish and Kosher cook book collection. If you're doing the same, you NEED Joyce Goldstein's books. They photography is stunning and the recipes are easy to follow. The ingredients are easy enough to find and there's nothing too exotic.It's a welcome change from the massive amounts of Ashkenazim cookbooks on the market.
