Review: Everything you want it to be - Just came in the mail today- if this watch performs like I expect it to, it will be my new favorite AND edc. This piece packs a punch for the price. What’s more to want? Date, eco-drive, chrono, MT, water-resistance, performance, looks, and fit. I have small wrists and this 7.5” band is for me. It wraps just under 3/4 of my wrist with a double band to pick up the slack. Because I have smaller wrists, the 39mm face accompanied by the buttons still sits like a 41mm would. Although this watch may not be for the bigger wearer, it fits me perfectly at 5’10 160lb. It came out of the box without battery life but it charged up to the 1 sec function within an hour of direct sunlight. The illuminated hands (and smaller 5 min spots) glow brightly enough to impress me. The 24 hr dial and cooly-tilted date window are my favorite face features. The numbers are big and white so this watch is super readable. If you’re counting seconds you may have to improvise from 55-60- if the bigger chrono second-hand is set to 0. They’ve made the large red hand for chrono use only and the constant second- dial is at the bottom of the face, thus making seconds 55-60 virtually unseeable. But for me, this won’t matter except for settting the time. The leather-lined canvas strap is definitely a bit stiff out of the box. I’m currently breaking it in on a tight setting but am hopeful that with a little wear & water (it’s resistant up to 100m), it will break in and shape nicely to me. The unusual 21mm strap does help beef up the overall appearance, although good luck searching for an off-model substitution at that size. There didn’t seem to be too many of this design in this size. The chronograph works and resets super professionally up to one hour. Any longer and it will zero out automatically. Not a down fall for me. The hands are set to true locations but If yours doesn’t- there’s a calibration feature that’s manually adjustable. I’m going to pay attention to the buttons and if they get pressed accidentally but so far (about 3 hours in) I’ve yet to press anything by accident or catch the buttons on anything. (This includes a change of outfits) Overall: I expect this watch to keep comfortably close time; I expect it to be appropriate for anything from golf to dinner and anything in between; I expect it will break in nicely to me personally, I expect it will perform like it’s supposed to and, if not, I expect the Citizen to stand honorably behind their product. I expect this will be my new go-to daily piece and I expect it will continue to grow on me. I will follow up this post only if my expectations aren’t met. If not, then this watch is worth every penny for a mid-range investment in my opinion. Grab one and enjoy! Best! 4/17/22 Update: The strap is tough and stiff. If it doesn’t fit you perfectly I suggest you try setting it on the looser fit and adding water. I’ve bent the strap around quite a bit and have set it loose then soaked the strap. I expect it will rest well here until fully broken in and maybe then I’ll tighten it again. Until then, this worked. Here we are a year later and this is definitely my most favorite watch. Performance is impeccable and I wear it with more outfits than I probably should. The only thing that changes is that I soaked the band in fabric softener over night back when I got it, then ran it through the wash. The leather inside held up- the canvas held up, and the band has relaxed down to a perfect fit on my wrist at the center hole. (One off from the pics) All said & done: this watch has been snorkeling in key west, worn to dinner, and everything in between. Love it.
Review: Fantastic field watch; simple, durable, long-lived. - I’ve owned the basic 03E watch for 8 years and have just purchased the 05E chronowatch. The 03E is alive and well and I am only retiring it because I’ve recently discovered a chronograph is actually really handy for me at work. This review will be based on my experience with the 03E and I’ll assume everything’s true of both. If I later find that’s not the case, I’ll update my review. This watch is a very practical, utilitarian, attractive watch. I’m 6’3”, 200 lbs, and not at all a fan of the large watch craze. This watch is the perfect size. It’s neither too small to be delicate looking (or feeling), nor large enough to be an eyesore or a weighty hunk of ballast on your arm. It’s weight rides comfortably and is easily ignored. While many people complain about the band, once it broke in, the watch never tried to rotate around my wrist: it always sits squarely in the center of my wrist, even if I allow it to ride up and down my wrist. Never rolls in or away on me. The band looks like it’s going to fall apart at any moment after nearly a decade of abuse... but when you handle it, it gives no signs of fragility... I feel like I could get another eight years of wear out of the band. The face has a few scratches, honestly earned over years of backpacking, woodworking, and army training. I went ahead and got a $10 scratch protector for the 05E— not that it needs it. The 05E is visibly larger than the 03E when compared side by side, but otherwise their the practically the same size and weight when worn. The difference just will not be noticeable. I noticed in photos from other reviews that the chrono hand (the large second hand) doesn’t come back to 12 when zeroed out; mine does the same. It’s visibly off to the left a bit. If that will bother you— it appears to be common to the model. It irks me, but I’ll get over it. I tested the the chronograph against my Graf Zeppelin watch and my iPhone stopwatch and found no discernible variation between the three in an hour runtime. The hands and dial are clearly visible for hours after dark (this is true of the 03E after 8 years too.) These two watches are my second and third ecodrive— my first I would’ve purchased around 2004... it’s still ticking. I’ve never seen one stop. I make no conscious effort to expose them to day light, even leaving them in my bedroom for weeks and months and they never seem to slow down or quit. Ambient light in a dark room seems to be enough to keep them going. (This may not be true if you use the chronograph feature a lot.)

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How durable is the strap? i have 4 of the stainless & titanium band eco-drives and love them but am leary of canvas & leather bands though i like them**
A: I've had this watch for 8 years. The strap lasts about 4 years of constant use. It starts to look a little scruffy the last year before I replace it. I'm not a fan of the weight of comfort of metal bands, so I like this canvas band a lot, and don't mind replacing it every 4 years. The last time I replaced it with a leather custom band from Etsy (20mm width worked fine).

**Q: will the red minute hand moves or only static?**
A: The red hand is actually stopwatch function second hand. It will only move when you start the stopwatch. The real second hand is the dial above the 6.

**Q: Im having a hard time finding a good 21mm watch band, any advice on any brands? If not, anyone use a 20mm? Is it snug or loose?**
A: The band is my biggest complaint about this watch. I wore mine daily for just about three years, and it was in terrible shape. You can buy the exact same band that came on it, but I don't know why you would want to. I found some good 20mm bands while I was searching for a replacement band (and inadvertently two other citizen watches, oops), but then I found this one. Its not your traditional band for this watch, but I'm out of the military and back in school, so who cares, plus I've got two dressier citizens when this doesn't fit the t-shirt, jeans and sandals style. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FHJE668?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00This Fluco Vigo 20mm is fantastic. Its comfortable and it looks great. It is also a perfect fit, and relatively easy to swap out the band.

**Q: How durable is the strap? i have 4 of the stainless & titanium band eco-drives and love them but am leary of canvas & leather bands though i like them**
A: I've owned this watch for some years now. The thin black leather on the inside of the band begins to wear long before the canvas. It took at least 2 years for me to replace the band, and it was still completely usable when I did.
