Doing an straight edge test I found one side was pretty much straight while the other had an bow of about 0.25mm or 0.01 inch. Unfortunately I marked them before testing and the straighter edge is "B" while the slightly bowed edge is "A". I guess they stand for "Alright" and "Better". This is better than expected and much better than I need for carpentry projects. I didn't check the scale because I won't be using it. The Mayes has a decent straight edge , accurate to plus or minus 0.01 inches (less than the width of a 0.5 mm pencil line) throughout its length and has accurate 1/16th of an inch markings by comparing 99 cm on the Shinwa to 38 inches + (15.6/16) of an inch on the Mayes . The Mayes was spot on with the Shinwa throughout its length from the first 40 inches to the last 40 inches. I do wish the straight edge was more accurate but for the price, I cannot complain.
