I don't know the life span but assume it will correlate with the first answer. I bought 2 batteries but haven't even charged the backup. I suppose it would but getting the collar on those little buggers might be the bigger issue. This rechargable battery is for dog collars that work with underground fences. To keep critters out of the garden, I've always bought a giant bag of black pepper (Costco, Sam's) and laid a thick line around the perimeter. Old school, cheap, and fool proof ;) **Q: How long does it take to recharge the battery?** A: My experience has been that it takes about 2 hours for the Red light to go out. I was hoping that it would free me from having to pay $20+ every three months for a new battery from Invisible Fence Co. So far I am satisfied, but it's only the third week. I'll update this review once I know how long each charge lasts, and what the recharge time is. Now, to the meat of my review:1) If you are like me, then you cannot find any information on your Invisible Fence Co. collar or battery that indicates what size your battery is. The battery guide indicates "Compatible with Invisible Fence R21, R22, R51 and Microlite Collars". Truly, I have no clue which one is which. IF you scroll through the product pictures on Amazon, the fourth one displays images of the compatible collars. I found a collar that looked like mine, and ordered with fingers crossed.2) The installation tool. It's indispensable, about the diameter of a nickle, and has nowhere to live between uses. What does that mean? It is destined to get lost. The best you can do is be careful to always put the tool away in the same safe place after you charge your battery every 3-4 weeks. The tool is a nondescript, black circle that most folks would wipe off the counter with trash or toss in a junk drawer (never to be seen again). Do not let that happen. The instructions state several times that you have to be careful to not over tighten the battery. To be clear, the battery does require some finger strength to seat properly, but over tightening may cause the plastic housing to crack. I read other reviews where people indicated that their battery had fallen out of the collar. I can only conclude that those folks either did not have a compatible collar or that they didn't tighten the battery enough. It's a tough balance, I know. My battery fits into my collar like a puzzle piece, and is not going anywhere.3) Post installation. Not much to say yet. It's only been a few weeks. The battery installs easily, and has a green indicator light that flashes periodically to let you know that it's charged. The light will change to red when charging is necessary. The reviews indicate a 3-4 week charge is common. My dog does not test the Invisible Fence often, so I anticipate our battery lasting 4+ weeks. Also, our fence is set on the lowest correction level. Larger dogs on a higher correction level or dogs who test the fence boundary more often will likely drain the battery faster. I did personally test the collar by holding the probes, and crossing the boundary line of our invisible fence. Simply put, it works. However, in the three months since we have been using the Circuitcell batteries, they have proven to be not worth the risk to our dogs life. The problem is that the battery has dropped out of the collar on two occasions (different battery each time). The first time, I assumed operator error, and very carefully put in the second battery. It, too, dropped out after only two weeks. The first we found the battery in the house; the second I assume is somewhere in our yard. Neither the collar nor batteries seem to be damaged in any way, the battery just does not lock in like the name brand battery it replaces. Since this means the collar can be non-functional at any time, we are going back to the name brand. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money *by P***W on Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2015* I've always hated that our invisible fence batteries were disposable. So I was delighted when I stumbled upon this product. For our dog, the battery lasted well past 30 days. I can't say precisely how long it lasts between charges, but I estimate 5-6 weeks. Charging takes somewhere around 3-4 hours. My one complaint is that I wish there was a different method for checking the current charge. The led indicator flashes once every 30 seconds, green if it is charged and red if the battery is starting to get low. At only once every 30 seconds, it's easy to blink and miss the flash (is it dead? Or did it flash when I blinked?). It would be nice if it flashed a little more frequently or perhaps had a button you can push to have it flash. Since the battery is Lithium-Ion, once it is close to depleted, it's dead shortly thereafter. Between that and the slow flashes, we sometime miss that the battery has died.
