I put ice in it before I leave for work and then put water in it when I arrive at work. Sometimes there is still a little ice when I get home at night. Even when all the ice is melted, the water is still really, really cold. I have the 18 ounce also and both work great so far. I have used the 18 oz one while running errands in the Arizona heat. I put cold (not ice) water in it and leave it in the hot 100 degree car and two hours later it is still as cold as when I put it in there.
