It's less processed than other sugars, doesn't have anything added to make it look brown, and is vegan-friendly. The cost of the product is reasonable, although slightly higher than regular sugar. I don't mind too much, because now I actually think about how much sugar I'm using. Panela has extra nutrients in it because it hasn't been quite as processed. I'm not saying it's a health food, but if I'm going to eat something bad for myself, I might as well eat something less horrible. Normally, I've used Sucanat and this product is similar except that it is slightly lighter in color. Quality control may be an issue. One of my 3 packages had moisture and large chunks of hardened moist sugar. Amazon ended up refunding me for the entire purchase since this item is non-refundable. The other 2 packages had small hard chunks, as well as more fine sugar. I sifted the large chunks out and then put the small chunks into the blender and they are now fine textured like the rest of the bag. It tastes very good. Has a darker more molasses taste than regular cane sugar.
