I decided to try replacing them with wool inserts, and found these. Other than the fact they're black instead of OD green, they are in every way exactly what I recall being issued in the Army. The scratchy feeling of the wool is quickly forgotten after donning the gloves with inserts, they fit well in my gloves because of the way the wool compresses, they keep me warm much better than the synthetic silk inserts, and they aren't overly warm on those days where the temperature is borderline.
