I live in Florida and I would not keep a regular umbrella out in high wind. Those bases only are about 30lbs. We got an offset because these bases are as heavy as you want them to be. I bought the base at ikea and sand at Home Depot. My base is now about 250lbs and I expect I can leave this out without having to worry about it in very high winds. This is my first offset umbrella. I plan on purchasing more in the coming months as summer quickly approaches. This is a good one. It's huge. It covers much more than a regular umbrella as well. It's very huge. Covers a loveseat and two chairs as well as a table. I don't plan on buying another regular umbrella again. Only offset umbrellas. They just feel more luxurious. This one in particular is stitched well and feels sturdy. It's easy to adjust and it was easy to figure out without instructions. I definitely would buy this again. The price was reasonable. Definitely cheaper than buying it at Walmart and even Ikea would have been more expensive, though I would buy the base at Ikea. The size is big enough for two people to stay under it. The fabric is thick and feels strong. It also comes with the only small tool I need to assemble it. The weight is not too heavy for me to carry around the house The cross base makes the foundation stong.
