It's tough to find a harness that fits and doesn't rub his armpits or his tummy raw. The Ruffwear Hi & Light can be adjusted to fit him very comfortably. His chest is 19.25". I ordered the XS. The neck adjustment is almost as tight as it can go, and the chest has a couple of inches still available either way. He's been wearing this harness for about a month, through all kinds of weather. So far no chafing and the harness still looks like it's brand new. It does slide from side to side a bit, but it still seems secure. My dog is neither an escape artist nor a puller. He usually sticks pretty close to me on a loose leash. He is a shy dog, though. A few times he's been scared and tried to run. The harness held him securely and he was not able to wiggle out.I use the light loop to hold his tags on a carabiner and the cord inside the ID pocket to attach the poop bag holder. If something should happen, I want his tags to be very visible. I'm not sure that anyone would know to look in the pocket.I don't know why other reviewers say that the sizing is off. I found it to be right on. Perhaps there is confusion about how the adjustment works. Ruffwear has a YouTube video showing how to adjust the neck and chest to fit your dog. It stays out of his arm pits and doesn’t impede his shoulder movement. It’s light weight so it doesn’t weigh him down. The hardware is size appropriate meaning they made it with small snaps not 1” buckles on a small dog. The larger sizes are sized up approximately. Duh! Makes sense but the other harness makers don’t seem to adjust to the size of the dog. I have bought more expensive harnesses and this one is the best I have come across. Easy to put on too. It also has a pocket on top to stuff a poop bag in it. Quality materials. The color implied it was red but it’s orange which is what I was hoping for.
