About 50 Miles from the Canadian border. I installed one of these outside over my front door for light when I come home and have to find the key hole. It has been below 0 here and most of the winter below freezing. The light works fine out there exposed to the biter cold. **Q: Is the motion detector on this light a photocell so it won't come on when it senses light or is it just motion only all the time?** A: Comes on in dark only, with motion detection, then shuts off after a few seconds of inactivity. One exception, the glow feature which allows continuous lighting at a much lower brightness even if there's no motion/activity. **Q: Will this work through glass?** A: No motion sensor lights work through glass. The motion sensors are actually heat detectors (PIR or passive infra-red). Glass will prevent the sensor from getting a reading on the body heat. **Q: Will these work in a closet, or we they always be on because of the darkness?** A: They should work fine in a closet they only come on when there's motion and only in the dark. We put it at the end of a hallway, so I’d stop running into the doorframe (I’m still getting familiar with this house). It lights up about 7’ or so in range. And I like that it senses the light during the day, so it doesn’t go on all the time, therefore saving battery.
