If you are installing it on a sailboat you will need a through deck connector (watertight) then an additional length of coax from the through deck connetor to your radio. **Q: I am going on a over land trip through north Maine woods . How well do you think this antenna would receive work mounted to my truck ?** A: It is designed to be either very high (on a mast) or over open water - you might do better with trucker type CB antennas for ground use **Q: Does the antenna unscrew from base? Be nice if it was removable with out having to remove bracket for boat storage with top down.** A: Yes it can however it does not fold down, you have to take the coax cable off and then take the brass nut off the antenna to remove it ## Customer Reviews ### ā­ā­ā­ā­ā­ Great range in a tiny package *by A***K on April 6, 2022* I bought this antenna and installed it on my 19ft flats boat. The tip of the antenna is around 10-12ft off the water surface. I paired it with a MPD Digital RG8X coaxial cable and very basic model Standard Horizon VHF. On any given day on the water I am 10-20 miles away from the local coast guard station. I get great signal and very clear audio monitoring channel 16 despite the antenna height. ### ā­ā­ā­ā­ā­ Size may be different than Metz antenna *by A***K on July 7, 2018* Product seems well made and worked flawlessly when attached to my vhf cable. However, if you are replacing a Metz sailboat mast antenna you should now that the body of the Shakespeare is longer than the Metz and may not fit in the space the Metz antenna did.
