Studies on human cells and animals have shown that certain compounds in Astragalus root have telomerase-stimulating and enhancing effects, which have been linked to increased longevity, anti-aging and DNA repair. Telomerase is a protein enzyme in our cells that repairs damaged DNA 'caps' in our cells. These caps are called Telomeres. BUT telomerase fuels uncontrolled cancer cell growth. cancer cells use telomerase to maintain their destructive growth;  To maintain telomere length, in most cases by activation of telomerase, leads to unlimited proliferative capacity of cells - cancer. Telomerase activity was found to be absent in most normal human somatic cells but present in over 90% of cancerous cells.
