You will need a NMO mount of your choice. The metal cover is just that, a cover, not a mount. I was able to tune this up on GMRS with some trimming of the length. I purchased this for experimentation mainly, and am happy with the functionality and quality for my cost. I found I can tune it to a good SWR with a GMRS transceiver. I would not recommend this as a primary antenna. It is a good improvement over a HT 'ducky', no db gain to speak of.
