However, if the siren goes off and you live by the ocean and it is a beautiful day (or evening) outside then that would probably be a tsunami warning. But you will also get wind, hurricane, thunderstorm tornado, etc.Hope this helps. **Q: Is this loud enough for hearing impaired?** A: It's pretty loud but have a hearing impaired I might look for another model that's more volume adjustable. I am glad I decided to ignore the negative reviews and trust my instincts instead. I am delighted with this radio.I took it out of the box and read the "ZoneGuard Quick Start Guide." There also was a much thicker Owner's Manual in the box but, so far, I haven't opened it. I set up everything in about five minutes by using the "ZoneGuard Quick Start Guide" alone. The setup was quick and intuitive.In short, the ZoneGuard Weather Radio is small, cheaper than most other weather radios, and seems to work well. It sits silently until an alert is issued. I have never had any "false alerts" when it went off at a time other than a real weather alert.It also serves as an AM/FM radio. I especially like the push buttons to select different AM/FM stations, just like a typical car radio.The only downside I can think of is it doesn't seem to be as sensitive as the old weather radio I used to have before it died. The old radio, made by a different manufacturer, would pick up three or four different weather stations, although some had static. (That old radio died so I purchased the ZoneGuard Weather Radio as a replacement.) The ZoneGuard Weather Radio only picks up one weather station where I live. Luckily, it is a local station and sounds crystal clear on the ZoneGuard Weather Radio.The ZoneGuard Weather Radio only cost about half of what my old weather radio cost so I am not complaining. My only real complaint is I can't figure out how to turn off really loud weather alerts- I know that's the point, but I leave this on when I'm not home for the dog and it stresses her out. I can tell when I come home, the radio has switched to the weather alert band and I know what that thing sounds like when an alert goes of. It's a VERY loud annoying series of beeps and then the normal emergency alert noise you hear on tv or radio. Read the instructions, not sure if you can turn it off since the point is to be an alert system.
