The 3 adjustable plates on the actual pole can be removed but the silver plates on either end and in the middle cannot be removed **Q: When I attach this item to my tripod, there is a lot of movement. Once attached it is not level and allows the heavy end to tilt downward. How to fix?** A: Sand bag on the other end, I use several different weights in my studio to get around this. **Q: How does this compare to the tether tools tripod cross bar? other than the tightening screws, it looks like an exact knock-off.** A: I do not have the tethering tools' version. This one has multiple mounting points, quite easy to use; I use it for my overhead video productions. It is a very sturdy accessory for tripods, but it is quite heavy and limited in size that is not long enough for my projects; I end up with a C-stand / arm with a solid tripod head mount on extension for my DSLR overhead video shootings. One with a wide lens and one with a medium lens. I had been using two different tripods as a result and that can make for a cramped experience depending on where I need to set up. Now I can use just a single solid tripod and mount both cameras. I'm not a huge fan of the way they did the tightening knobs, and I may have damaged the thread a bit on one of them by not getting it perfectly aligned, but it does appear to be doing what I wanted and I am not worried about anything loosening up now. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Great fit for my tripod! *by D***D on Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2019* Absolutely love this for taking lay flat photos. It fits my existing tripod perfectly and I'm able to attach the ball head of the tripod to one end. I highly suggest making sure your existing tripod has the right size screw for the adapter on this side arm, first. It's a larger screw than what you would use to attach to a camera's base/quick release base.It's easy to adjust, able to slide forward and back by loosening knobs so you can control how far the camera is held. It feels very sturdy, which was a surprise. It has some weight to it.
