## Questions & Answers

**Q: Description says this model plays both PAL and NTSC TV. This model WDBGXT0000NBK is for PAL TV per WD website. Does it really play as NTSC TV as well?**
A: I bought the NTSC version and I can confirm that it works on a PAL tv. There is an option in settings where you can select PAL or NTSC. I can only assume that a PAL version also works on an NTSC tv...

**Q: can you hook this up to a hard drive and watch movies**
A: Just wanted to put my two cents in too! I just received mine last night - I have a 3 TB hard drive connected to it - I got it because not all tvs (or game systems) play all the different movie formats - this thing plays them all - I am VERY IMPRESSED, and based on the fact of seeing two USB ports I'm positive I can hook up another hard drive (the cartoon one for the kids). There wasn't any lag works perfect. If they ever add more options to the home menu that would be a bonus!

**Q: Does this one allow us to play REPEATEDLY a part of a video file from point A to point B (where we can set point A and B at any place on the video) ?**
A: Hi One Builder, I have had every generation of these WD units and I have not seen that option you are asking about. I know exactly what you meen. If you had a ripped standard dvd in a folder with a VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folder the machine will automatically cycle through the 0.99GB .VOB movie files in order without any pause. You can do some other little tweaks like when browsing the video movie files, the unit gets the case artwork and movie plot, cast and when you highlight a film the background will randomly transition through very High Quality Wallpapers for that film but the cast names you can add your name,etc.. Once the WDTV unit writes a few folders on any inserted usb storage you can remove the storage device and take a look at the factory written folders in the root of your device from a computer or even an android tablet or smartphone with OTG USB port capabilities, if you know LINUX OS you can make things happen with some notepad code. There are a couple forums with custom launchers, so replace the factory firmware, I only see what you are looking to do being added as a feature with a launcher by a code writing individual or you may get lucky and request this add-on in the forums and someone writes new code and releases a new firmware update with the feature. I Like Your Idea Though.

**Q: Does it come withe Netflix USA app installed?**
A: Yes sorta. Netflix is based on your location so if your outside of the US you won't get US content. I've used mine in both Canada and the US and you will get the content based on your location. To get US content outside the country you need to use a US Proxy service.

Getting long in the tooth, but still the best for plug n play media playback.

*by C***H on Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2015*

The best device for playing media files. Have a couple of these wdtv live boxes that are playing avi, mkv and mp4 movies from an external drive as well as using them with usb flash drives and without a doubt, its the best media player out there. Yes, its still buggy and slow requiring a reboot every now and then and the processor needs an upgrade, but it still gets the job done in playing files that makes other boxes seem castrated. The wdtv online content is pretty mediocre by modern standard. I just use it for netflix and the slingplayer app, but my main use is for playing content from a wd mybook external hard drive and they both work well together as the external drive goes into sleep mode when the wdtv live goes into standby. The fact that Western Digital removed netflix from the newer version of this box is baffling to say the least, thus my purchase of this re-certified model. Doesn't look like the new version brings all that much to the table anyway, except maybe miracast, but I have no use for that. So, how can a device that is now long in the tooth as far as features goes, along with an interface that can be slow still get 5 stars from me....It's all down to the fact that when it comes to media, it supports it all and plays it all well. That's why I bought it and that's what it excels at. I have three roku boxes and one amazon fire tv box and they all suck when it comes to plug n play media. It's just a shame that Western Digital haven't really moved the game forward as far as their own boxes. If online content is your thing, stay away from this box, but if you've got a collection of movies / tv on a NAS, external hard drive, or on a usb flash drive, this is the box to have.

Best Players in their Price Range

*by R***. on Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2014*

I have been a big fan of these machines, and have examples of several earlier models. Contrary to other posts, it supports every format I have thrown at it. The only reservations that kept me from giving it 5 stars are that the user interface is not as intuitive as earlier models (that did fewer things), but I suspect I will just need to get more familiar with it. Also, many of the more advanced LIVE features are slower to launch then I expected, and streaming content often needs to buffer for several seconds in order to play properly, but I am still quite pleased with it's performance.

Nice on paper, bad in operation

*by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2015*

Extremely "buggy" and slow. User interface is nice, but maneuvering through it is like surfing the web on 56K speed. It's extremely slow and freezes up constantly forcing me to restart it numerous times while watching a a show for an hour. This may be representative of a reconditioned model, I cant say.
