And this is despite placing plastic netting (the stuff from garlic bags from Trader Joe's) - 2 plastic nets mind you, not just one - on the pump to protect it's inner workings. Well finally in Feb. 2017, nearly 3 years since purchase, the Ponics Pump gave up the ghost. Of course, quick like a bunny, I purchased the exact same model cause it had withstood the devices of the crows for years. After purchasing the new one (exact same model), the CEO of the company (FasterHarvest), Ron Mauldin, emailed me to ask if I'd purchased the correct size pump and if I had any questions. Along with his email was a download of How to Clean the Pump. I assured him that the pump had been a trooper, putting up with crow slobber and such, and that I'd gotten my money's worth from the little thing. But I was intrigued, and after dinner tonight, I printed out the instructions, and got the old pump out of the electronic recycle pile in the garage, and set to work to clean it. Well after 4 Q tips, a wet cloth, a toothpick, and of course wet rag and clean water........I picked and pried out more crow gunk then I could have imagined could get stuck in such a small cavity. Carefully I placed it all back together, plugged it in the wall, placed it in a bucket of water, and GLORY BE!!!!!! It LIVES!!!! It still works!!! So this will be my Back Up Pump. With the new one, and this trusty old one, I may never need a new pump again! First, it arrived two days ahead of the delivery date I was quoted, and It's a powerful little thing, about 2/3 the size of my previous one, but works so much better and is an excellent price. I really like the adjustable flow feature, I could make it rise to the perfect level for the stones and crystals in my fountain. This pump has a thick 3 wire cord and the Max I saw on the videos appeared to have only 2 wires and a transformer that plugged into the wall, this pump is direct 110 volts out of the wall. I have found 2 wire pumps without the need for a transformer but I have no way of knowing if any of them would work for you. **Q: What are the dimensions of this recirculating pump?** A: 2"L x 1.5"W x 1.5"H with the ability to choose a 1" - 2" lift for the water spoutI hope this is helpful! Enjoy your little work horse! **Q: What size tubing do I need for a 12 inch tall fountain?** A: Tubing has internal and external measures (to account for the thickness of the tube). You need 1/2 inch internal tube to connect to the pump. The pump comes with an adapter that allows you to attach smaller tubing (1/4 inch) to the 1/2 inch tubing. Either way you need the 1/2 inch tubing to connect to the pump. I brew beer at home and was looking for a small submersible pump to circulate the cooling water in my mud sink so the beer will cool quicker. The price on this unit was perfect for that purpose. I've used it a few times and have no complaints. From my experience it is quiet (the only way I know it is running is by the ripples on the surface of the water). It has suction cups that keep it relatively secure to the side of the sink, although when it does come loose I think it is more the fault of the rough surface of the sink and not the suction cups. There is a flow adjustment that seems to work well. I always keep it wide open, but did play with it when the pump first arrived to see what it would do. The only thing that surprised me was the size of the pump. From the close-up picture I thought it was about the size of my fist. When it arrived I discovered that it is only about a 1.5" cube. It is attached to a heavy duty power cable which makes it look a little silly, but I guess it is the size it needs to be for the small flow rate it puts out.
