This unit has several nice safety features such as two-press to turn on virtually eliminating any accidental powering on especially by little kids. The unit will not turn on if the glass is not firmly screwed in. Speaking of glass, did I mention this is glass and not plastic? Some may not like it since dropping it on a hard surface could result in breakage, but the glass will undoubtedly hold up longer than those using plastic. I have used this to blend a variety of drinks and smoothies with and without frozen fruit and ice cubes. It has done quite well when following the directions for use. I love also that it comes with a screw-on base so that you can detach the blending base, attach the screw-on base, and take it with you. Can my friend's $25+ Plexus mixer do that? The one with the plastic cover instead of glass and no extra base? Nope!
