You will need a Part 95 GMRS radio if you want to Tx legally in the USA on GMRS channels. This radio does not have that certification. You cannot legally modify this radio (or any other radio) to TX on GMRS in the USA . You may program it to MONITOR on GMRS or anything else from 118 MHz to 174 MHz or from 375 to 550 MHz. **Q: I know there's an optional bluetooth headset for this radio. Does that mean it can broadcast its audio through bluetooth?** A: You need to install UT-133/UT133A module in the rear of the radio. and then get the VS-3 bluetooth receiver. This is about the best rig I've used 53 years on VHF. I've used converted commercial to ham grade rigs. On simplex I often get very positive audio without asking. Be aware of the seller, I know a ham that had to return his because Icom wouldn't honor the warranty card claims they didn't show the serial number.
