Totes haven't worked because they're too easy for someone to reach into and tend to dump out easily. Backpacks haven't worked because the back pockets can be accessed without your knowledge. (Believe me, I've had my phone stolen this way.) This crossbody bag is perfect. It's medium sized with a thick comfortable strap that can't be pulled off you. It has 7 zippered pockets which keep you organized, an attached purse on the inside for added security, and a water bottle holder on the outside. I also love that the back pocket can be unzipped to slide over your suitcase handle. I can easily fit my tablet, book, phone, wallet, passport and other essentials without the bag becoming too bulky. Even fully loaded the bag is light and has a slim silhouette. I got the blue patterned interior which gives it a pop of color. This is an extremely functional yet chic bag. It holds the variety of things I like to keep on hand - more than necessary. I love it.Pockets - Every single pocket is usable. I love the "secret agent" side pocket. I keep snacks, a cliff bar, extra napkins, and a small toy penguin in it (obviously it's a toy, right? I just think it's funny to unzip the pocket and find a cute little penguin looking out. )Two front pockets, I can easily get my palm and 4 fingers in, and my hands are not dainty. I keep gum, mints, and a bottle of hand sanitizer in one, and a couple of hot wheels, a bandana, and some ear buds in the other. My galaxy note 8 in an case goes in the open side pocket perfectly.The outside front zipper pocket holds a thin notebook, more earbuds, sticky notes, afew pens, and a compact mirror.The back magnetic pocket is handy for just jamming things in when you don't have enough hands free. Im not currently using the two inside zipper pockets, but I have done so and they work really well for those things that are slim and aren't needed very often. The two pen loops are too big to hold pens, but are perfect for my chapstick and lip gloss.The wristlet is nice. It can be attached inside the bag, or taken out and used alone. I fit my wallet, coupons, receipts, movie stubs, etc. In it with room.Fabric - outside nylon is very durable and water repellant. Inside is not as supple as I expected, but is a thinner nylon and works well; gets softer with use. The inside pockets are lined with the same.The zippers are fairly sturdy, as are the metal bits that attach the strap to the bag.Inside - I have a travel journal, the wristlet, 2 pencil cases, and a pack of markers.I would caution against purchasing this if you are prone to filling every space to full capacity.Strap - it is woven nylon / same as a seat belt. It's very sturdy. Due to being so thin, it can cut into shoulder if there's a lot of weight in the bag.
