I purchased the ATLAS specifically for this ride. My brother-in-law also purchased one but it didn't come until the day we left, so he used two other devices for most of the trip and then the ATLAS for the last 3rd. Without getting into a long winded story about how it performed each day or whatever, I can simply say this device worked exactly as stated. You get up to the speed you want, push the appropriate button, and it locks your throttle. You can then make micro adjustments to your speed as you ride to compensate for hills, etc. And to turn it off, a simple press of the other button disengages the ATLAS. It's probably one of the easiest devices I've ever used. Installing would have been fairly easy, but because my bike was being serviced and the mechanic had already installed these before, I let him do it. As for my brother-in-law, he used a paddle and some other device that he said worked OK, but when he finally got a chance to install the ATLAS, he said it was like night and day difference. So I'm taking that as it worked much better than the other things he had. I don't know what to say on the price. Yeah it's fairly expensive, but it works. I like things that work. And would pay the amount again if I needed to. If you're planning a long ride, I'd HIGHLY recommend considering this device. Plenty of clearance so selecting a friction bad was easy & you can move the throttle lock left or right to change the friction pad pressure without changing the pad if you have the clearance. Also with a metal throttle tube no chance of over tightening the clamp & crushing your plastic tube so it is properly installed & working. The price is right around the same as the quality break away style or weighted bar end cruise control, so I'm happy with the price,quality & engineering of the Atlas . We have two kit types (Top and Bottom) in order to accommodate the variety of different bike designs. For example, the Top Kit is great for sport bikes because of fuel tank clearance issues the Bottom Kit would have, or for bikes with heated grips where the grip wire is on the bottom of the grip and would otherwise interfere with the Bottom Kit. On the VStar models, we tend to recommend the Top Kit, because a lot of models have the throttle cables coming out of the bottom of the housing, and the bracket for those cables can stick out from under the housing and interfere with the Bottom Kit. If you have throttle cables on the bottom and the bracket does not stick out, then you are ok to use the Bottom Kit. However, at $155 it should work amazingly with ease and look attractive on the bike. The button to engage the lock is pretty stiff at first, would not have wanted to try it while riding. It is unnecessarily large and looks clumsy. The housing does not need to be so huge.
