It is made of aluminum which is lightweight, great for artists but it is also pretty soft metal so may not be the best choice for shop use, especially if your are someone who doesn't take great care for their tools. The softness of the metal is actually a benefit if used for layout, especially with a marking knife as it will not damage your marking knife. The lines are thicker and not as precise as in my Starrett combination square, but they are good enough for rough layout, and also MUCH cheaper than a Starrett. This will mostly see use for my art courses, but also in the shop as needed.
