It is a nice heavy wood seat that is painted white. The removable feature is OK, not the easiest, but it works. The slow close works way better than I thought it would. We have had it for about 2 months and I have not seen any degradation in this feature. I thought it would work for a short time and then start to fade, not the case here. The only sound I ever hear from this seat is when I open it and it leans back against the tank. There is a little tap when it hits the tank. I owned one seat for only a year, and I took the finish off with a basic floor/tub/sink cleaner that I have used for years on most surfaces. So, my suggestion to the manufacturer would be to include some information about cleaning, which I did not find in the packaging.
