Auvio HD Radio Tuner defeats Sony HD XDRF1-HD, IMO
Everyone raves about the Sony HD XDRF1-HD radio tuner (discontinued) but the Auvio IMO, is the better sounding of the two units. The way I found that out was my ears told me. Miraculously found the Auvio here on Amazon for $50. Broke in the Auvio and the magic began. Sony has more bass throughout the sound stage, sound stage is more compressed, instruments sound good. But the Auvio produced more separation between the instruments, larger sound stage, more laid back and clear re-production of the instruments. I found myself listening to the Auvio and the Sony just sitting there. I have re-connected the Sony just to again compare, and have the same results.Your only HD tuner choices are much higher priced units like McIntosh MR88, $4K, Magnum Dynalab unit $4k. And I'm sure there may be other mfg. HD tuners, but maybe not for this price. Sangean made the HT1X, which I could not find anywhere. I purchased a 2nd Auvio as a back-up unit. Will break-in the unit and re-box it for future use, maybe on another stereo unit I have. I am using hign-end interconnects (Synergistic Research - Designers Reference) and the HD antenna that provided hands down the best sound was the Winegard HD-6000. The HD-6010 was no comparison. Also the antenna is inside the house. I would prefer to have the Yagi antenna Winegard HD HD6055P HD-Platinum FM Antenna, outside on the roof, but I'm renting right now so inside the house for now. Hang the HD-6000 from the ceiling if you have to. So by changing the interconnects and HD antenna made a Huge difference in your sound re-production. Cheap inter-connects and using the supplied HD antenna...well you get only a 10% taste of what the Auvio can provide for you. If you can find one here, you wont be disappointed. I am using the Auvio through a Yamaha HT Aventage 1020 which has built in HD radio, and the separate units blow away the built-in HD radio in every way.

Great Clarity of Sound !!! No Comparison to Standard FM Radio
AUVIO HD Radio TunerModel 31-134The unit shipped new sealed in the original box. Set up was easy, I connect this turner to the CD input on my Yamaha HTR-5280 Home Theater system via an optical audio cable (I provided). The unit came with a pair of RCA cables for L/R inputs; however, I prefer to use the optical audio cable so I do not loose any of the sound quality or speaker channels.I have had a terrestrial antenna hooked up to the receiver for many years; but, I never listed to the Yamaha tuner because the sound quality was nothing in comparison to CDs or or DVDs.The music reproduction via the HD Radio turner, Brilliant, it is Crystal Clear, there is such presence depth and richness to the music. Once you have HD Radio, you will never want to go back. The display is Huge, I can read it very crisp and clear from approximately 10 feet.

Auvio HD Radio Tuner
This is my first foray into HD radio technology. I believe this Auvio tuner is of high quality--nothing to complain about. I have purchased two of them--one hooked up to a Bose wave radio and the other plugged into my 1975 Kenwood receiver, which I have also equipped with an HD antenna on the roof. Any problems I've had with reception can be attributed to the constraints on HD broadcasting imposed by FCC. I was told that because there is a very real possibility of interference with analog broadcasting, HD signals are limited to between one and ten percent of the power typically used in analog broadcasting. HD radio is in a trial period; if it proves to be popular, it will eventually replace analog. But right now HD radio is sort of like two people whispering to each at a boisterous cocktail party. Considering my geographical location, I think the Auvio tuners are serving me quite well. With my antenna pointed in the right direction, the Auvio picks up the whispering. I'll take it gratefully--I've got the music I love. It may be useful to know that I purchased other "HD tuners" that were not appropriate to my needs because they were built for a specific brand of receiver. Not so with Auvio. As implied above, it is compatible with a wide range of analog radios and receivers, Another unique feature of HD radio technology is that the sound reproduction is either flawless or absent--there's no in-between with static or competing stations. With HD, if the signal becomes too weak, the speakers simply go silent. The price is reasonable; for about $100 and persistence, I've got the musical fix that soothes the savage beast.

I knew I would love it!
The unit arrived sooner than expected. I researched the product thoroughly before purchasing, so I knew what to expect. It was easy to hook up & I had the digital antenna installed (a must for this type of hd radio) I know from experience .I found a radio station that plays continuous music without commercials! I finally got a deal !!!

Very sensitive with some annoying features
The AM and FM sensitivity and selectivity (excluding overlap of nearby powerful stations) appears to be very good. However, every time the power is shut off, this tuner goes back to "standby" rather than returning to the last state.Occasionally, the presets vanish and must be reset.Further, setting the 'presets' is confusing and unlike any other tuner. The 'preset' routine is soon forgotten once learned.
