The Rainbow Fish English/Korean: (Bilingual Edition) (Bi:libri) (Korean Edition)

I am so glad we purchased this book. I have learned new Korean words by reading this out loud to my adopted toddler; and I am helping him to maintain his first language. The English translation on each page lets me know what I am saying in Korean to him. I am learning Korean, so I am hoping one day to be able to ask him questions in Korean about what is happening on each page. You must be able to read the Korean language script if you plan to read that part out loud to your child because it is not Romanized; however, I actually like that feature. Most books have awful Romanization of the language, and it is best if you just read the Korean script for more accurate pronuniciation. The script is phonetic and it can be learned in a couple of hours if you just take the time to sit down and do it. The symbols for the consonants mirror the tongue/lips/teeth placement when pronouncing them so they become easy to remember. My only criticism for the book is that I wish the publisher had made the Korean a little larger to make the vowels easier to read. If you are learning Korean, this is a good place to start. It might seem arduous at first, but it gets easier if you practice reading out loud every day and the phonology linked to each symbol becomes instinct rather than something manually initiated by you. Am looking for more books like this. What a treasure trove this is!

This book is beautiful and perfect for language learners! My dad is Korean and really wanted a book he could read to his grandkids and that they could follow along. This book works perfectly! The translation seems accurate and the book itself has beautifully thick pages and lovely illustrations.

It was shipped very quickly. A good book for starters learning korean. I'm already an adult but I need sonething to practice my reading skills in korean and this is perfect. I like the visuals and material of the book.

I have some vocabulary now and I am ready for the Korean grammar and sentence structure. This is more advanced than my skill level but I like the having the English on the same page.

It can be a challenge to find books for my Asian/Anglo granddaughters that allow them to combine the challenging aspects of learning to read - in two languages. "The Pout-pout Fish" is a book I have read to them many times in English - but they are starting to learn to read on their own now - and what a bonus to have a book in both English and Korean. I don't want them to lose command of either language - and this book will help that and make it fun.

I bought this for my coworker. I felt it was a beautiful reminder of the importance of culture within our classroom. Showing acceptance and understanding of diversity is something special.
