I sat down and read this book in one sitting, it was a page-turner and made me feel like someone really understood and was able to boldly voice the struggles of singleness, all while pointing me back to the feet of Jesus. Cindy's story was so brutally honest, witty, full of so much truth, and had me laughing out loud more times than I could count (which I am so thankful for, laughing about singleness is something I've needed to learn to be able to do).I have already started recommending this book to my other single girl friends, as it is a breath of fresh air! People love talking about relationships, but it feels like not many people like to talk about singleness. Cindy helps you see and appreciate every aspect of singleness; the struggles, the advantages, the disadvantages, and that even Jesus attended a wedding, alone, at 30-years-old....and there he made more wine. It is not a "how to be single book," and that is what makes it so amazing.I haven't been single for nine years and was in a serious relationship by twenty four, but before that, I felt as if I was single forever. I felt alone and misunderstood and crazy at times. Reading this book healed many wounds because I realized I wasn't the only one who felt that way. It candidly discussed topics I was too afraid to ask questions about out of fear of being judged. The author frequently uses examples in scripture to clarify or support her view.It could be read by a non Christian or a married person and still be relatable because it covers the basic issues of being single and also things that married people forget about such as how hard holidays are for single people and how expensive life is when you're paying for everyone else's happy events.I hope this book is the beginning of a trend in Christian literature. I appreciated the honesty used by the author, because she was brave enough to call the church out on the well-intended lies we are circulating and perpetuating. I also appreciated the narratives included in the books because I saw myself in them. I was glad to realize that it wasn't really envy that I was feeling when my best friend got married. It was loss. And I am glad that Cindy helped me to recognize what my true feelings were but also helped me see that it was okay to grieve for that loss. All in all, a good read. Lots of hard truths for me to hear but necessary for me to grow.
