Rumo: And His Miraculous Adventures

Amazing Book, fantastic art
The story is extremely creative, funny, scary, entertaining, with attention to detail, and well written. Great for children 12+ as well, much better than Harry Potter. The art is truly special. This book is part of a larger series I discovered a while ago. This is one of the older ones in the series, which tend to be better. You can read this one as well as most of the others out of order.

Go on an Adventure with Rumo
Walter Moers does it again as he transports the reader to the wild and strange land of Zamonia. A reader looking for adventure and tall tales will enjoy this work. Movers has a way to describe Zamonia and it's inhabitants in a way that I feel that I am reading a more enjoyable wikipedia. I wanted to continue reading to see what the next crazy adventure was going to turn.It follows the young wolperting Rumo as he grows from a baby to a young adult. It has a wide cast of characters to help Rumo along and add their own stories to the mix. Moers has a way in his writing to make me laugh and believe how could it get weirder than the last chapter. I never felt bored from reading or that the story dragged. It was go, go, go.I was not disappointed and will be reading even more of his works to explore even more in the strange land of Zamonia

Great!
Bloody and violent and whimsical! I really enjoyed this book, and ripped through it all in one sitting, and as soon as I'm done with this review, I'm looking for more by Moers.

A really good read, but quite bloody
I remember thinking when I read Moers' "The 13 1/2 lives of Captain Bluebear" that it would be a great book for one of my kids to read down the road, let's say around the ages of 10 or 12. Make no mistake, it was also great for an adult to read, but what was so special about that book was that it seemed to transcend age - anyone could read Bluebear, no matter how old or how young, and thoroughly enjoy its pervasive sense of wonder. To me, that was what made that book so special. So when I saw that Moers had a new book, I couldn't wait to start reading it. Unfortunately, this book is far from ageless. Its focus seems to be fighting in all its forms: one on one, one to many, all out wars, etc. Not only is there a lot of fighting, but there's very detailed BLODDY fighting, and let's not forget the long torture scenes! This is not a book that I would hand over to a child to read until they were well into their teens. All that being said, I still enjoyed it a great deal, once I stopped expecting it to have the same qualities of Bluebear. I love Moers' writing and of course his illustrations, although there were numerous type-setting errors (illustrations slightly misplaced, fonts which indicated the speaker not matched) which lead me to believe that this book was rushed to publication or order to capitalize on Bluebear's success.I definitely enjoyed another journey through Zamonia, and I recommend Rumo to anyone who wants to spend a little more time there... as long as they are at least 15 or 16 years old.

Fun, thy name is Moers
The second book in the now Zamonia Quadrilogy (loosely connected), is the story of a young Wolperting pup named Rumo, and his adventures growing up. Some of the absurd things here are: Roaming Rock, a moving boulder that is home to a bunch of Demonacles, one-eyed ravenous cyclopses, a double-bladed talking sword named Dandelion, Gornab the Ninety-Ninth insane king of Hel, and General Tick-tock and his Copper Killers. This last one is probably the most richly imagined part of the book. General Tick-tock and his Copper Killers are an amalgam of metal and random creature parts. The General himself is home to the only thinking element, Zamonium (who is coincidently, insane). His goal in life is to fight every creature and refine torture to a high art form. It is much darker than Bluebear, but every bit as good. What's weird is, even though it's quite dark, at its heart, it's a love story. What you'll find from me in reviews of Moers is praise and awe at this man's imagination. I have yet to find a flaw in his prose, narration, style, plot, moral, theme, etc. He is the best absurdist author we have today and we should put him on a pedestal.

Wow
This is the third book of Moers' that I've read and they all are wonderful and leave you wanting more. This book gave me dreams of epic fights and talking swords. If the world of Zamonia existed I would want to live there!

A Master Storyteller
Moers is my favourite author. 5 stars is just not enough. Since I discovered the Zamonia books, I have a hard time enjoying most books. His books are a concentrate of genius. Maybe it's too rich for most people, because of all the people I lent the book to, none really got into it. I just can't grasp why! I've read all his books several times and every time was a blissful experience. His writing is unique, it can't be compared to anything else I've read so far.

I always loved this book and it's worth every second of it. The original cover was nicer, but it's perfect anyway.
