My guess is that you have an Ashley furniture in your area, and it is embargoed for sale. The EXACT item is 200 more at the store. **Q: Is the table surface smooth or grooved?** A: It is grooves kind of like composite wood but easy to clean. Everything else is solid wood **Q: Is the table top surface wood? Would it be prone to water stains?** A: Table top is wood, but we have not had any water stains. Could not disagree more. I was very surprised by the quality of the product. Very heavy, sturdy wood. Easy to put together (we are not very handy people and it was a breeze for us). Love the way it looks. Its comfortable. Very good quality in my opinion. Sometimes i see negative reviews and wonder if people are just trying to get money back, or if their expectations are too high for what they paid.
