## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars

This watch is a great value, especially for a "beater" -AND THE RUBBER STRAP IS OKAY!!!

*by K***E on Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2013*

Summary:At Amazon's current price (about $120), this is a bargain: solar power, nice ratcheting bezel, 200m water resistance with a screw-down crown, day/date display. This is a good watch for weekends and summer time, but it will probably look out-of-place in an office setting; this is why I call it a "beater" watch - I will use it for swimming, yard work, jogging, etc.Details:*ISO certified diver with 200m WR rating means that you can use it for anything short of very deep dives. Technically, you are supposed to have a dive watch's seals checked every couple years, but for this price and my uses (swimming) I will just use it and probably never have any problems.*Good lume, easily readable in the dark. Tip: hold the watch face next to a lightbulb for 30 seconds before going to bed if you want to check the time at any point in the night, the "charging" will help a lot.*The face is not quite as orange as it appears in the photos - it is the color of an orange creamsicle.*Some reviewers have complained about the strap, but it feels okay to me. It also feels incredibly sturdy. If you don't like the strap, the watch will take a large variety of aftermarket straps since it has standard 20mm lugs. Or you can try some tricks for making the strap fit more comfortably - just google "how to soften Seiko rubber strap" and you'll find some advice.*The bezel is very useful for timing things, but this one is aesthetically different from most: rather than being round, it is scalloped a bit - this looks a tiny bit odd, but allows a better grip, which I like - it is much easier to turn the bezel while wearing the watch. Conclusion:All in all, a good watch at the current price. If it were $150, I would seriously look at Citizen's Eco Drive dive watches. But for about $120, this is a better value.UPDATE: I've now had the watch for about a month and am upgrading the rating to five stars. The timekeeping is more accurate than the factory spec (spec is +/- 15 seconds per month, while mine is running at a rate of about +5 seconds per month); the water resistance, as expected, is fine for swimming and such; the rubber strap has now formed nicely to my wrist and is pretty comfortable. I mention this last item because many reviewers have complained about the strap, but it just seems to have needed a few weeks to take on the shape of my wrist -- though I may have accelerated the process by fastening it in the curved position when I was not wearing the watch. It is now about as comfortable as a nice leather strap, but will be much more durable, I think, especially for a watch that will see much use in and around water.July 2016: I've now owned the watch for a few years, and will add a few comments. Timekeeping and reliability are still top-notch, lume lasts all night if the face is charged with a bright light for 20 seconds before bedtime, and water resistance is still fine. The numbers on the bezel seem to be black inserts (rather than paint) in the impressions of the bezel, and some have fallen out - though the numbers are still readable. This is excusable, given that the watch has had hard use, and I clean it under a faucet with an old toothbrush. Still a great value!

    Great watch (initially), great price

Bought this watch to replace my 'beater' Casio which after several years final succumbed to moisture. Though this cost more than I usual spend on a beater watch, I've come to realize anything rated 100M WR or less and doesn't have a screw down crown will eventually fail due to water penetration. I was looking for an everyday/weekend watch I can take kayaking, fishing, swimming, etc. and not have to really worry about getting wet. I've also become fixated on solar powered watches so this fit the billLove the watch so far. Understated in look and size as much as an orange watch can be understated. The orange is kind of subdued/pale. No sunburst or gloss, just a flat orange but looks good. Like others I found the band to be irritating. It's textured on the underside and the texture pattern leads to the edge of the band which may be the culprit. That and the band is pretty stiff. I've gotten used to it though and replacing it is a low priority. While this particular Amazon listing for this watch kinda got the specs right, I've seen big variances in size specs all over the net (including Amazon)for this watch. This is what I've measured: Bezel width at widest point - 42mm. The Bezel overhangs on the case at about 1mm at some points so I'm guessing the case at its narrowest is about 40mm....I'm not sure where the '37mm' I've see in some places is coming from. Across the watch horizontally including the crown measures about 45mm. The band size (width at the lugs)is indeed 20mm....not 22 as I've seen some places. Total thickness including case, bezel, and backplate is about 12mm. Again I don't know where the 10mm I'm seeing in this listing and others is coming from. Initially I though 10mm may be the case w/o the bezel, but that doesn't add up...the bezel is about 4mm thick!*UPDATE 1/7/2016* Had to downgrade from 5 to 3 stars. Less than a year after owning the watch the black paint starting coming out of many of the engraved numbers on the bezel as well as the little second indicators. Looked pretty cheesy. Eventually I took a sharp pin and was able to scrape out the remaining paint on the numbers and markers that were left so it doesn't look quite so bad, but not being able to really see the markings on the bezel really takes away from the appearance IMHO. Oh well. Still functions great but has been downgraded to my beater watch as I really don't like the looks of it now.

    Good first impression

Received very promptly. I purchased this watch as knock-about to wear on Caribbean vacations, etc. so I haven't really worn it much as I haven't travelled since I got it. But I can say that the orange dial and stainless bezel are quite stunning. Quite "Monsteresque" looking without paying the premium for a true Monster here in Canada. The lume is bright, it seems to keep good time. I like the concept of a solar charged quartz watch as this will (hopefully) stay running during periods not worn. I can't do that with my high end mechanical watch. I did switch out the rubber strap with a Barton nylon strap which feels much more comfortable. I found one on Amazon with an orange stripe to match the dial. If I note problems once I begin really using it I will update this review.
