## Description

desertcart.com : FGO Organic Earl Grey Black Tea, 100 Count, Eco-Conscious Tea Bags, Resealable Bag, Packaging May Vary (Pack of 1) : Grocery & Gourmet Food

Review: More than good replacement for Twinings Earl Grey (loose leaf) - Review for: Organic Earl Grey Loose Leaf Tea 16oz bag (1pound), bought September 2020. The underlying black tea is a good mix of Keemun and Assam. The Keemun makes for a lighter tea that does not drown out the Bergamotte oil, or force an amount that makes the tea taste soapy. Twinings itself has replaced most of the real Bergamotte oil with extract and their website doesn't say how much real Bergamotte is left. I still like Twinings Earl Grey, it's been my family tea for more than half a century, but knowing that this organic product uses only the real thing (2% organic Bergamotte content, as per ingredient list) is an extra star in my book. The tea that arrived was super fresh with an aromatic scent (expiry date end of January 2023), which is important as the bergamotte oil fragrance and tea aroma will evaporate over time. The taste is a delicious, light to medium strength Earl Grey, great on its own or (for lighter taste) mixed with 1/3rd Darjeeling. If you are used to soapily strong Earl Grey variants or those made with Assam alone, you may find it too light. If you like Twinings, you'll probably like it alot. I have not been able to do a direct taste comparison side by side, as I ran out of Twinings before this arrived, but as I am sitting here, sipping a cup of the hot, dark-golden liquid with a small teaspoon of cane sugar, tasting a well balanced mix of light black tea and bergamotte oil, I am letting out a satisfied sigh. I am finding this one to be an excellent substitute. Update 2021: Had 3 1-pound-bags of this in the meantime, and all of them were perfectly aromatic and tasty. Preparation instructions: Serve in thin-lipped bone-china cups of approx. 6oz size (better sensory experience than mugs for delicate teas, see image). Use 2 tea pots and a straining sieve: one pot to steep the leaves and another to strain the brewed tea into, in order to get the leaves out before they turn bitter. Bring 3 cups / 24 oz of water to boil, pour over 6g (0.22oz) Earl Grey tea leaves while still boiling. The leaves should float freely in a pre-warmed tea pot. For less or more tea, just multiply or divide water and tea by the same amounts. Strain after no longer than 3 minutes of steeping through a tea-straining sieve into the serving tea pot. (I am setting a timer to 2:40 min brewing time and don't stress over 20 seconds more). When I strain the tea, I either stirr the leaves right before, or let the leaves drip from the sieve after straining, to get all the full, concentrated tea. (if you accidentally steeped it too long, you can try decanting without stirring the leaves and it might save you from a bitter experience). I drink it with a little cane sugar and a piece of bread with something sweet on it, and thereafter, my brain starts working. If you are a Trekkie and have not tried what Picard's favorite drink really is about when properly prepared, this is it. If yours is bitter, you either use too much tea or you let it steep too long. Oh, and I never use tea bags for black tea. It is filled with the tea dust that is breaking off from the properly dried tea leaves, the leftover after the leaves have been packaged. That tends to make for an overpoweringly strong tea, plus the dust tends to seep into the tea itself. Either that or (with luxury versions=filled with proper leaves) it does not have enough room for giving off its taste. Free floating is the way to go. If you want to avoid the garbage getting all wet, just leave the used leaves to drip and dry in the sieve over the pot you used for steeping before throwing them away. Disclaimer: this is the first time ever I bought this product. I have picked and paid it myself and have nothing whatsoever to do with either FGO, desertcart or Twinings. This is a pure tea enthusiast's review article and I hope you enjoyed it and your tea.
Review: Purchased the Earl Grey and Rooibos. Very good teas! - I'm not a tea connoisseur by any means, but I do know what I like and this tea hits the spot for me as my morning cup. I've had much more complex Earl Grey (read: expensive) in the past, and making the switch from coffee to tea, those much more expensive teas were becoming cost-prohibitive. So, I did a bit of research and decided to try this brand. I have not been disappointed! I'm well into my second bag of this and will keep this stocked up going forward! From a flavor perspective, the Bergamot is nicely pronounced, as the black teas do not overpower it. That's important to me because I just love the fragrance and taste of Bergamot. I like the fact that it's certified organic as well. And though it's high in caffeine, I can create a weaker tea by using less but still get great flavor out of my cup because of the inherent bold flavors of the tea! Highly recommended! As for the Rooibos tea, I just love it! As I've gotten older, my body has become more sensitive to caffeine, so I've had to limit my caffeine intake. Even with the Earl Grey, I can only use about a 1/2 teaspoon. But I like drinking something hot throughout the morning. Enter the Rooibos. I can drink this all day! Slightly sweet, slightly smoky, and redolent with earthy, woody goodness, it's no small wonder this is the national drink of South Africa. I don't know how this compares to what you can get in South Africa - some have mentioned it's not as strong - but I think it's plenty strong (though I use a heaping tablespoon). And a great thing is that I can get three full mugs of tea out of one serving which is awesome. If I did have a nit - and it's only a nit - it's that the bark is VERY finely ground. Even using a metal strainer, little bits will get through. But it's not that big of a deal. If having little bits of flotsam in your tea bugs you, then this might not be for you. But for me, considering the health benefits of the bark, I don't mind ingesting a few nibs.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I could not locate your organic certification on the ccof and usda.gov websites. can you supply supporting documentation?**
A: All of our FGO tea bags are certified USDA organic by CCOF, California Certified Organic Farmers. And they are certified Non-GMO by the Non-GMO Project.

You can confirm our USDA organic certification by searching the name of our manufacturing facility in the USDA Organic Integrity database - "Bell-Carter Packaging". You will see the name of all of our tea bags noted in this database on the USDA website.

You can confirm our Non-GMO project certification by searching for FGO in their database.

If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to say hello!

Live Healthy,
-Brad (Founder, FGO)

**Q: Why is there a warning from CA proposition 65 for this product?**
A: If you're asking this question, you're likely not from California. In California, even the most left wing, health nut, eco conscious hippies laugh at the absurdity of the prop 65 warnings. You can find them posted on most buildings, nearly every non food product, and a good amount of food products. Essentially if something has a one in a million chance of contributing .01% to a cancer you might eventually get, it gets the warning.

**Q: My nettle arrived, and in spite of your description saying it is 100% from the usa, why does my 16 ounce bag state: raw from bulgaria??**
A: My 16 oz. bag of Nettle Tea says "Raw from Bulgaria" on the front of the bag. My 16 oz. Gunpowder Green Tea says "Raw from China" on the front of the bag. Both bags say they were "distributed from FGO in Seattle, WA" so it appears they were shipped to the USA. I wonder if they were shipped in barrels and packaged in the USA or packaged in China. Either way, I am not happy to buy food from China.

**Q: What process is used to decaffeinate?**
A: We decaffeinate our tea naturally using CO2 -hope this helps! The CO2 process is one of just two that removes caffeine from coffee without using chemicals.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Superior Quality and Taste Compared to Other Earl Grey Tea Brands - BEST PRICE ANYWHERE
*by C***W on March 8, 2021*

I ran out of Earl Grey tea and went ahead and bought a box of this flavor that was Stash tea brand. It was actually MORE EXPENSIVE even though it was on sale at the grocery store compared to the bulk package that Amazon sells. I figured it out at the grocery store - if you buy Earl Gray tea in the standard grocery store package - it is usually about $3.50 to $3.00 for 18-20 tea bags per box. This item on Amazon is superior quality, high grade Earl Gray tea AND ORGANIC and in the bulk package of 100 tea bags it is far less expensive. Tea rarely goes bad so buying it in the big bulk package is fine with no worries about the product going bad. I signed up for Subscribe and Save to deliver it every 3 months - I love to drink organic Earl Grey every day because of the antioxidant health benefits. Tea drinkers live longer according to many scientific studies. Black tea is about half the caffiene of coffee - I have never been a coffee drinker because of too much caffiene and coffee is acidic and gives me a tummy ache - If you are an Earl Grey tea fan, this is the BEST DEAL on price anywhere. There is a strong scent of Bergamot essential oil which is the hallmark flavor of Earl Grey tea. The sturdy, thick packaging secures the tea to prevent spoilage and it has a firm re-sealable packaging feature at the top of the bag. I give this product my highest recommendation. Amazon shipped it within 24 hours to an Amazon locker that is less than a 10 minute walk from my house. It was securely packaged and in a huge box with 7 other items, everything in the box arrived in perfect condition.
