I had inherited an old, circa 1940's, tomato slicer from my aunt. Several years of use and repeated washings and the knife eventually gave up. The wood handle completely rotted away. This replacement knife is far superior, being one piece stainless steel. Slices tomatoes beautifully, the slices never stick to the blade.
