**Q: What is the black strap for? Mines came with a separate Velcro strap**
A: I believe it is for adding extra secureness (if that's a word) to holding the rod but, I have not needed to use it.

This is a heavy duty all Metal pole holder.  Top of the line. Easy to put together, very durable when the big fish take off and the rod is still in the holder. The adjustable screw for height difference is made of Metal and is easy to adjust.  No more wet poles from sitting on the ground, up off the ground 8-10 inches  and in midair. Great product for kids, parents and anyone that has never fished before.

I have 2 of these.  My only complaint is that the angle cannot be set very high.  I need to plant it at a 45 degree angle and then use the adjustment to get it to where the rod tip is where I want it.-Tom

This thing is all metal.  The spikes mount to the holder to you can hammer the spikes in if need be.  Its all metal and the angle is adjustable.  Nice unit.
