The shoes are about 5.5 inches long. My baby wears a size 5 and the shoes are a good half an inch bigger than her foot. I was aiming for her to have a little more room in her shoes though. They are very lightweight and can fold them up in my hand, that's how soft in a way they are, but they due have a plastic sole on the bottom. My daughter is 13 months old and based on other reviews saying to go down a size the first pair I ordered were the 6-12 month size. These however were too small so I returned them for the 12-18 month size. My only complaint would be that they are very tight on the ankle which makes them tricky to get on if feet are already wet.
