You mix a little powder with clean water until it completely dissolves. I put just a little water in with the powder to mix it, before filling the water bowl. It does tend to leave clumps, if you mix it with too much water. It takes awhile for any kind of calming effect to build up. I haven’t noticed a reduction in my bird’s squawking, but I have noticed he is less aggressive. If you’re looking for something with a sedative-like effect, this is not the product. My 38-year-old parrot been on this product for several years now. The vendor gets dinged on this review for the packaging. The product used to come in a screw top jar with a measuring scoop.
