I stopped short of steel wool, or anything else I thought might scratch or damage the surface. My glass cooktop has a bunch of little dots on it. Ceramic? I'm not sure, but I do not want to damage them. However, try as I might, I couldn't get the burnt-on stuff off of the burner areas. I decided to try this. What a great decision that was! I cleaned the surface with plain water after using this to remove all the stains.
